What is a Green Home?
Information Brochure | Systems Built Blog
What exactly IS a Green Home?
A green home is a high performance home that is built to exceed the minimum requirements of the building code, especially in areas of indoor environmental quality and resource efficiency (including energy, water, materials and
What is Sustainability?
The ability to conserve things that we believe have value: clean air, sun, open space, natural landscape and clean water. Things that we as consumers, want to see continued in the future.
What are the benefits of owning a Green Home?
A green home has many high performance features built into it that can provide improved health, safety, comfort and/ or lower operating costs. Green homes are also environmentally friendly, including being more durable and less polluting, as well as creating less waste and making substantially better use of resources. Going 'green' is not political. It's sensible!
How can a home be labeled as 'High Performance'?
We as consumers expect high performance from every other industry and they are responding. Electronics, home entertainment and automobiles - they are all getting smaller, more streamline and operate with better efficiency and fewer fuel or energy needs. And in the recent years, more consumers are even looking to more revolutionary options like hybrid engines and alternative fuels that have less impact on the environment. There is no reason why you, as a consumer, shouldn't demand these features from your home as well. A standard home utilizes a LOT of electricity, gas and other fuels to run. And if it's not well insulated, or operating optimally, can lose much of that energy to the air outside - a waste of a resource and a continual high cost to you. Rubicon Homes has the ability and the desire to create higher performing homes by utilizing thicker insulation, better windows, higher quality craftsmanship, Energy-Star appliances and fixtures, compact florescent light bulbs and better air quality and filtering systems.
What does LEED stand for?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
What is the purpose of LEED Green Home Building and its Rating System?
LEED for Homes is a voluntary initiative to actively promote the transformation of the mainstream home building industry towards more sustainable practices. LEED for Homes is a national branding that consumers can look for, to readily identify high performance, eco-friendly homes. All LEED homes are third party inspected, performance tested, and certified to be higher performing than conventional homes. LEED for Homes has designed a rating system that awards various levels of achievement in adopting resource efficiency in a home and defines this with four levels, or performance tiers: Certified, Silver, Gold & Platinum. This tells you as a consumer, how effectively your home performs in the areas of health, safety and operating costs. A LEED rating also tells you how well your builder performed in terms of resource efficiency and environmental stewardship when he/she built your home. Think of it like the 'star rating' within a hotel system. You know what you are getting in the areas of comfort, service and amenities at a hotel that has been given a '4 star' rating. With green home building, a LEED rating tells you that you are getting a home that is healthier to live in, has lower operating costs, and had lower impact on the environment as it was built.
Why Should I Buy a Rubicon Home?
Rubicon believes that green construction is the future of the home building industry and is an active member of the United States Green Building Council. Rubicon also utilizes Systems Built technology to craft their homes. This is a method where the main structure of the home is built in a controlled environment at a production site, instead of being exposed to the elements while being built outdoors. The interior finish, exterior detail and landscaping is completed at your home site. This method of construction provides a higher level of quality throughout the entire home building process, significantly reduces the amount of construction waste, and more effectively utilizes manpower to efficiently deliver a home to your site in less time than a traditional stick built home. Every home we build utilizes Energy Star features and can readily be built to meet LEED standards, with any level of interior finish you desire.
How is Rubicon different than other local companies who say they are building green?
There are many companies who strive to use green products in part of their project or to incorporate some aspect of Energy Star or LEED principles as an option to their customers. But at Rubicon, Green Systems Built Construction is all we do. We are 100% committed to delivering a home or building that can meet all the requirements of the LEED rating system, and utilizes eco-friendly strategies from start to finish. Rubicon is constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance your home lifestyle while maintaining responsible building practices.
